Despite what you might see in TV trailers for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Japan isn't all about busy pedestrian crossings, flashing lights, conveyor sushi and robot cafes.

Our own visits to Japan have shown us that it's much quieter than many people think. So here are 5 of my favourite Japanese YouTube channels showing that gentle and quiet side.

Whether they're about Japanese food, traditional Japanese crafts, travel in Japan or just a quiet Japanese lifestyle, these channels are all absorbing and peaceful, and have relaxing music or gentle ASMR.

All have English subtitles and some also have other languages available. I'm sure there are lots more that I haven't come across yet - let me know if there are any you would recommend.
