Consulting: Delivering Strategic Value and Meaningful Impact
My consulting background
I’ve been consulting and freelancing independently on and off for 14 years, and for more years as an in-house consultant prior to that. I brought my UK operation to Canada as Impact and Value Consulting, starting over with new clients in a very different working culture and ecosystem.
I work with public sector organizations, non profits, small businesses and academic departments to help them secure impact and value when spending public funds, grants or tight budgets.
My consulting clients are usually looking for strategic or whole-organization level support and I usually work with senior management on projects which need deep expertise that they don’t have in-house. I mainly specialize in change projects, evaluation and review, developing new programs and frameworks, and other organization development topics that ensure both strategic value and meaningful impact.
As of May 2023 I’m also offering high-level freelance services for those times when consulting isn’t needed, but external expertise is. Click here for more on that.
All of my services are based on nearly 25 years of experience working in long-term planning, stakeholder engagement, collaborative projects, risk management, joint-decision making and quality improvement.
And that experience builds on my Ph.D. in collaborative decision-making in public agencies. You can read that here if you enjoy that sort of thing.
My clients to date have been public sector organizations, local government, non-profit agencies and academic / research institutions and small businesses. These have been in both Canada and the UK.
Why use my services?
All organizations need external support now and again. Sometimes they just need a quick review, and at other times they need more technical advice on a substantial project.
Either way, I get calls to help. Why? Well, firstly it’s because clients see my work and understand that I’m a safe pair of experienced hands. I’m also independent and very comfortable working with sensitive topics.
But it’s also because managers know that when they need specific knowledge or skills for a one-off project, engaging a consultant will be cheaper, quicker and more effective than hiring a new short-term, part-time employee for the same project. This is another way in which I offer both impact and value.
